INCREDIBLE KIDNEY

Kidney

God is so good..and incredible by creating the humanbody..Everyone is born with two kidneys..even when one is removed or malfunctioning, the remaining kidney simply assumes the function of the removed kidney. A person with one kidney functions just as well as someone with two.

What is a Kidney?
             From the description of WIKIPEDIA
The kidneys are organs with several functions. They are seen in many types of animals, including vertebrates and some invertebrates. They are an essential part of the urinary system and also serve homeostatic functions such as the regulation of electrolytes, maintenance of acid balance, and regulation of  blood pressure. They serve the body as a natural filter of the blood, and remove wastes which are diverted to the urinary bladder. In producing urine, the kidneys excrete wastes such as urea and ammonium; the kidneys also are responsible for the reabsorption of waterglucose, and amino acids. The kidneys also produce hormones including calcitriol, renin, and erythropoietin.

The kidneys are two small organs located near the vertebral column at the small of the back. The left kidney lies a little higher than the right kidney. They are bean-shaped, about 4 in. (10 cm) long and about 21/2 in. (6.4 cm) wide.
What is its major function?
They kidneys have a couple of different functions. The main purpose of the kidney is to separate urea, mineral salts, toxins, and other waste products from the blood. The kidneys also conserve water, salts, and electrolytes. At least one kidney must function properly for life to be maintained.

Filtering the blood

The kidneys remove wastes and excess water (fluid) collected by, and carried in, the blood as it flows through the body. The kidneys separate wastes and water from the blood.

Balancing fluid levels

By removing just the right amount of excess fluid, healthy kidneys maintain what is called the body's fluid balance.
Fluid comes into our bodies from what we drink, and from high-liquid foods such as soup. If we drink a lot, healthy kidneys remove the excess fluid and we pass a lot of urine. If we don't drink much, the kidneys retain fluid and we don't pass much urine.

Helping control blood pressure and releasing hormones

One of the important functions of the kidneys is to regulate blood pressure. Healthy kidneys make hormones such as renin and angiotensin. These hormones regulate how much sodium (salt) and fluid the body keeps, and how well the blood vessels can expand and contract. This, in turn, helps control blood pressure.

Helping make red blood cells

Healthy kidneys produce a hormone known as erythropoeitin (EPO), which is carried in the blood to the bone marrow where it stimulates the production of red blood cells. These cells carry oxygen throughout the body. Without enough healthy red blood cells you develop anemia, a condition which makes you feel weak, cold, tired, and short of breath.

Function of the kidneys: Kidneys help produce erythropoeitin (EPO) hormone which stimulate red blood cells.

Maintaining healthy strong bones
Healthy kidneys keep bones strong by producing the hormone calcitriol. Calcitriol maintains the right levels of calcium and phosphate in the blood and bones. Calcium and phosphate balance are important to keep bones healthy.
